So we are now well and truly into Spring and I’ve noticed recently some of you have been tagging me on Instagram with lots of creations from my crop top designs. This tells me a lot of you are getting excited about summer and I have say I share your enthusiasm.

The Eden crop top uses very simple stitches and has very minimal shaping, so I would really suggest this pattern to anyone, even a newbie. The top is created by first making the waistband ribbing. Once we have accomplished the right length for your size we will join the two ends together and crochet simple single crochet stitches in the round. After completing a few rounds we will be diving the piece in two to create a v shape to the top. Both the fron and the back are the same.
Lastly we will do some ribbing along the armhole areas and along the v neck, ending with the straps of the top. I absolutely love this top and I know you will all have this as a firm favourite this summer. It will be perfect paired with jeans, shorts, skirts, anything really.

YARN
The Eden crop top uses Paintbox Cotton Dk which is light/weight 3 yarn. It is 100% cotton and is machine washable, perfect for use in summer garments, breathable yet holds it’s shape very well. Another yarn I used was Drops Cotton Light (the green top) and that works up perfectly too for this pattern.
Both yarns come in a very large selection of colours so I’m sure there is a perfect colour for everyone.

Now turn your work and begin working on the two back “triangles”.
You should have 51(55, 59, 63) unworked here.
Attach your yarn to the stitch next to triangle that you just finished.

Fasten off.
Attach yarn to the peak of the other front “triangle and rep from **.
Next attach yarn to the unworked middle st between the two front “triangles”
****Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 3 chains, slst in next 2 sc on side of “triangle,* turn, skip 2 slsts, sc in BLO in next 4 sts, turn, ch 1 sc in BLO in next 4 sts, slst in next 2 sc on side of triangle, rep from * all the way up along the inner edge of the triangle. The top of the triangle should be worked like shown in photo below.
Next row: ch 1, turn. Sc in BLO of next 2 slsts, sc in BLO in next 4 sc. Turn (6 sc).
Next row: ch 1, sc in BLO in each of next 6 sc. Turn.
Rep last row until you have a further 24 rows completed. Fasten off leaving a long tail.****
Now attach your yarn to the next available middle st between the two front triangles and rep from **** to ****.
Now it’s time to work the ribbing towards the back of the top. This is done in the same way as the front so just follow those steps again but when you finish the straps on this side there is no need to leave a long tail when fastening off.
Now with your tail and yarn needle make a few sts to secure the the inner “v” ribbing like shown below on both the front and back of the top.

Now turn your top wrong side out and with your yarn needle and long tail, stitch the front (shoulder)strap to the back strap creating one continuous strap. Rep on the other side.
You are now finished making your Eden Crop Top.
EXTRA NOTES
The stitch count is just a suggestion but I do realise that all our bodies are in different shapes in sizes. To make sure you do get an accurate fit please follow these guidelines:
- Make the ribbed band long enough to go around your under bust/waist. Slip st ends together.
- If it took let say 108 rows of single crochet ribbing to reach around your waist you need to make 108 single crochet around the band using your 5mm hook. Rep this round for whatever number of rows is stated in the pattern. For eg. 16 rounds for size small. If you want the top longer add more rounds here.
- Now you need to half the number of stitch you have. So half of 108 is 54. mark that st and continue as stated in pattern.
- To figure out how many sts you need for each “triangle” you need to , for eg take 54- 4= 50, then divide 50 by 2. Continue on as what is stated in the pattern.
- If you find the bust area of the top is too small/big you can always go up or down a hook size.
hi, and thank u so much for this adorable patter. do you have a PRINTABLE one without gaps and ads in between, pleeeeeeeeeeeease? thank you so, so much. shirley [email protected]
This is a great pattern!! In your YouTube video you say to slip stitch after each row but in the pattern it doesn’t say that
That bothered me too since I didn’t use the video. The omitted slip stitch in the pattern seriously messed me up and left me with a slit on the side. When I did the ribbing, I still went from one triangle to the next, ignoring the slit and just leaving it there. I’m hoping it looks fine; otherwise I’ll just stitch it up.
She still did not make correction in the written instructions. It also does not say to turn your work before you start making round.
Hello, I love this pattern, thank you . Could you play ease tell me what size the gauge 15 sc by 21 rows using 5mm hook , should measure . I want to make your I have the right yarn weight. Thank you
Everybody complaining, seriously. This is a FREE pattern. And she made a whole video on youtube to go with it. again FREE. This is a lovely pattern and i cant wait to try it. Ive tried your sweater pattern and its so amazing so far but i ran outnof yarn and havent been able to finish it but i love it so far.
Thank you for both the pattern and the easy to follow video.
I Would definitely like the printable version as well.
Nice Top!
I have a question about the waistband. I used a different yarn and now I don’t know if 102 rows correspond to the “S”. Could you tell me the length in cm?
Thank you very much!
Hi Carrie, love this pattern and the video! Thanks so much for posting.
I want to try to just make the back straight, so no triangles, but I’m not sure how I can attach the shoulder straps in that case. I’m planning to just not do triangles on the back, and do ribbing from the top of one front triangle to the top of the other, round the back, then follow you for the rest of it. Do you think that would work?
Thank you so much!
Hello Noah!
How did it go? Did you make it work? I would also like the back better straight, but since i am new to crochet i thought i should just stick with the original pattern. Please let me know if it works better so i know whether i should try to make it straight or not.
(Sorry for my english i am from Slovakia 😉 )
Thanks, Klaudia.
Same here, Klaudia! I’m not sure how I’ll like the triangles in the back so I wanted to do it straight across. I just don’t know how I’d attatch the straps as I’m fairly new to crocheting clothing.
Hi, how long will it take to make this pattern?
Thank you
Hi all, not the original poster but I tried something similar. I kept the back straight, elongated the straps out of the triangles and attached those each to the straight back. This worked out perfectly. The only thing that was a bit more fuss was attaching the ribbed sides on the outer end of the triangles to the straight back. For this I did the last row of the ribbing with a double crochet, two half double crochet and a single crochet and then slip stitched to the back so it didn’t pull so much. This worked out well. I wish I could attach a photo here to show you but hope this helps a bit already.
Good luck and have fun making it!
Would it be possible to get a printable version of this pattern please?
Thank you
I made this top but the proportions were very, very wrong. I am dissatisfied.
Ik it’s late but you probably didn’t adjust your tension properly. This can affect the gauge and become too loose or too tight or just make it wavy if your gauge changes throughout. Make sure from now on you check your gauge before you start and adjust it as needed. If you don’t do this, your stitches will not be uniform and it will make your project wavy <3
If using acrylic medium weight yarn should I size down or just use a 4.5mm and a 5mm hook?
Thank you so much. Can’t wait to use this patterns. And your video was so helpful for use visual learners…
What size would a medium be please?
I’m having problems with pattern maybe you can help with. At 118 rows of the band it only went half way round my daughter so I kept going till it fit (in hindsight maybe mistake, but when I changed to the 5mm hook it stretched it out hugely. I noticed yours isn’t at all in video. What am I doing wrong?
Finished it this evening, but the straps are way too long. I used the same hook size, and yarn type. Even did the gauge, just the straps are almost 4 inches too long. I thought they looked too long when I was making it, but I will have to go back and cut away and redo them. Everything else fits great at least.
Would definitely test the straps before fully putting together, rookie mistake on my part a I have made other Carrie patterns before.
Can you send me this pattern in as for printing. Thank you
Love the pattern and video. Do you have this pattern in an extra small? Also I would love the printable version. Thanks so much.
Hi, is the size small a child size or is it small women’s size.
I wear a women’s size small, but the largest measurement size for the waistband barely fits over my head and shoulders. Am I using too small of a yarn?
Could you please advise me how to make this top with the back of it being straight.
I posted a comment above as well, but in case you don’t see it. I elongated the shoulder straps from the front triangles to reach the flat back (you should try it on to see how long they should be, for me it was 70 rows for a small). Then to attach the outer sides of the rubbing of the triangles to the flat back I did the last row of the ribbing as a double crochet, two half double crochets and a single crochet instead of all single crochets so it doesn’t pull the triangles back. This worked out well for me. I wish I could attach a picture to show the result but I hope this helps already.
Good luck and have fun making it!
For future patterns, maybe number your rows instead of saying “next row” over and over. It is hard to follow if you lose your spot, especially when most of the rows have repeating instructions.
Yeah I really don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing at that point
I agree. And I missed the part about slip st. . I’m at the triangles and started questioning it.
What are the dimension of the sizes? I have looked everywhere to see what the bust size is the different sizes.
Same. The XL rows in the waistband doesn’t seem enough for my 22 year old daughter
Im making the first triangles for what is supposed to be the “front” of the shirt, but it’s where I slip stitched my rows together so it’s technically the back. I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong considering I’m following the written pattern and the YouTube video and I keep messing it up. I want to drop this project but I’ve already spent so much time on this. Kinda disappointing.
Hi Kiwi! I actually had the same problem and was getting frustrated, but I kept going. Come to realize… the slip stitches actually go on the side and not the back (almost how most formal wear has side zippers).
thank you i really enjoyed this project! the only thing i had a problem with was at the end the part below the armpits sticks out a bit and bugs me. still, not super noticable and it looks pretty nice!
I have made 3 of these tops it is truly a great pattern. I changed the pattern a bit I put the seam/turning area on the side looks much better. I also didn’t attach the yarn for the ribbing of the straps in the middle(v) I eliminated the (v) attached the yarn at the top (shoulder area) and continued around plus the extra rows for the straps.
I need help, I am usually a small or extra small in tops, my waist band is currently at a large and it still won’t fit over my shoulders, I am worried if I make an extra large the bust will be too big, any advice on how large to make it?
Is there an XS version of this? Or what numbers do I need to alter to make this smaller?
