free crochet beanie pattern

This Pink Jasmine Crochet Beanie is a beautifully textured winter hat featuring soft, flower like stitches and a comfortable ribbed brim. The Jasmine stitch creates a lovely raised pattern that looks intricate but becomes easier once you get into the rhythm.

This free crochet beanie pattern is worked from the bottom up, beginning with a stretchy ribbed brim before moving on to the jasmine stitch in the round. Available in six sizes, from newborn to large adult, it’s a lovely handmade accessory for chilly days or a thoughtful gift for someone special.

Construction Overview

The Pink Jasmine Crochet Beanie is worked from the bottom up, beginning with a stretchy ribbed brim made using half double crochet stitches worked into the third loop. This creates a lovely knit like texture and helps the hat fit comfortably around the head.

Once the ribbing is complete, the ends are joined to form a band. The jasmine stitch is then worked in the round to create the beautiful, flower-like texture of the hat. Finally, a series of decreases shapes the crown for a neat stitch.

Customizing the Ribbing

You can easily adjust the ribbing to suit your preference. If working into the third loop feels difficult, try half double crochet or single crochet stitches worked into the back loop.

Continue crocheting the ribbing until it fits comfortably around the head, making sure you finish with an even number of rows. When working around the edge of the ribbing, you’ll make one single crochet for each row completed. For example, 50 rows of ribbing will give you 50 single crochet stitches.

The jasmine stitch creates a beautifully textured fabric, while the ribbed brim provides a comfortable, flexible fit.

Yarn

For my Pink Jasmine Crochet Beanie, I used a soft sport weight yarn. This lighter yarn helps create beautifully defined jasmine stitches while keeping the finished hat comfortable to wear.

The jasmine stitch produces a thick, textured fabric, so choosing a yarn with good stitch definition will help the floral pattern stand out.

Choosing an Alternative Yarn

You can also experiment with other yarn weights, including DK, although this may affect the finished size, texture and amount of yarn required.

If substituting a thicker yarn, you may need to adjust you hook size and the number of stitches in each jasmine puff to achieve the desired look.

We highly recommend that you follow our free step by step Youtube video tutorial. Watching this video will give you a better understanding on how to create the crochet jasmine stitch. One of the trickiest things when working the jasmine stitch might be holding the base of the working yarn before pulling it through all of the loops on the hook.
