I’ve had so many requests for the written version of the YouTube tutorial I did for this long lacy crochet cardigan so finally here it is.

Free crochet cardigan pattern

Materials needed:

Weight 4 yarn

6mm crochet hook

Sizes xs ( s, m, l, xl )

Back panel:

Begin by chaining 70 ( 76, 82, 88, 94 ).

Row 1: Dc into 5th ch from hook, [skip 4 sts, (dc, ch 1, dc) into next st.], rep until 5 sts remaining. Skip 4, (dc, ch 1, dc) into last st. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 4, dc into same st. Now look for the middle two dc of the next cluster:

Into the first of the two middle dc, place (dc, ch 1, dc). Repeat this to the end by placing (dc, ch 1, dc) into each of the two middle dc of each cluster along.

At the end of the row make a (dc, ch 1, dc) into the last space of the row. Picture below

Repeat row 2 until you have a total of 42 rows

Front panel (make 2):

Ch 34 (40, 46, 46, 52)

Work in the same way as the back panel until you have 42 rows completed.

Sleeves (make 2):

Ch 46( 46, 52, 52, 58 )

Work in the same manner as the other panels until it is long enough to go from your arm pit to wrist.

Assembly:

Place the front panels on top of the back panel. Sew the top edge of each from panel to the back panel. Then attach yarn to bottom corner and sew up along the side seam until you are 5 inches from the top. This 5 inch space will be your armhole.

Next fold your sleeve lengthwise and sew up along the edge. Sew the sleeve to the armhole making sure the sleeve seam is facing downwards. Repeat for the other side.

And your cardigan is now finished. I do have a YouTube tutorial for this cardigan so please feel free to check it out

Hi Carrie, I decided to make your beautiful cardigan using a Wine coloured yarn. I am only on row 11 but I need to get More yarn for the rest of the pattern, how many skeins in total do you think a large will need?

Thank you for sharing the pattern, it will be the first non-scarf or hat that I have crocheted, lol
    Wish me luck!

Was wondering if anyone made an XL or 2xl? If so, how much yarn did you need? I have to order online since I’m not close to any stores so I’m just wanting to order the right amount 🙂 Thank you!

I am making a large size sweater so my back has 88 chains. However, the two fronts will each be 46 chains for a total of 92 chains for both fronts together. Will this not make the fronts wider than the backs which means they will not line up on the shoulder seam?

The written instructions for row 1 do not say make dc right after making v stitch. So, when you get to tow2 you are wondering where did these stitches come from. Lucky there is the video tutorial. This very confusing. Nor do you state gauge,
