Hi everyone! Today I have this beautiful crochet crop top pattern for you all to follow along. I named it the “Sophia” after my daughter, beautiful and elegant.
To make this crochet crop top you will need a weight 4 cotton yarn and a 5mm crochet hook.
Notes:
Picot: ch 3, then slip stitch into the first ch you made.
The Cups:
Ch 11.
Sc into 2nd ch from hook and continue down the chain in sc until you reach last chain. Make 3 sc into last ch.
Turn your piece so you are working on the opposite side of the chain. Sc to the end. Turn.
Ch 1, sc until you reach the middle stitch of the 3 sc you made in the previous row. Mark this stitch and place 3 sc into this stitch. Continue down the side of you piece making 1 sc into each stitch.
Repeat the last row until the piece is big enough to cover your breast.
Cup edging:
With your yarn still attached , ch 1, sc into that first stitch, *ch 2, skip next stitch, sc into the following stitch. Repeat from * all the way around the cup.
Next row:
Ch 1, **sc into the first ch2 space, picot, sc in same stitch as your picot. Repeat from ** into every ch 2 space around.
For the neck strap make a chain of 300. Fold chain in half and weave through top of cup. Put your cups to one side.
Main body:
Ch 86.
Sc into the 2nd ch from hook. Sc to end. Turn.
Ch 4 (counts as 1st dc and ch 1), skip next st, dc into the next, **ch 1, skip next st, dc into the following. Repeat from ** to end.
Next row:
Ch 1, sc into every dc and ch 1 space. Make sure to put a sc into the last space and another sc into the 3rd ch of your beginning ch4.
Next 2 rows: Ch 1, sc to end.
Next row: Ch 1, sc into same space, **ch 5, skip 3, sc into the fourth st. Repeat from ** to end.
Next row: Ch 3, sc into first ch 5 space, 7dc into next ch 5 space, ***sc into the next ch 5 space, ch 2, sc into next ch 5 space, 7dc into next ch 5 space. Repeat from *** until you reach last ch 5 space. In this space make a sc, then make a dc into the next sc from the previous row.
Next row: Ch 1, sc into each of the next 2 sts. Then make a (dc, picot) into each of the next 6dc. When you reach the 7th dc make a dc into this stitch. Do not make a ch 3 into this last dc. *** Then sc into next sc, ch2, sc into next sc, then (dc, picot) into each of the next 6dc. When you reach the 7th dc just make a dc into this stitch. Do not make a ch 3 into this last dc. Repeat from *** to end. Make a sc into last space. Cut yarn and weave in all the ends. Attach yarn to one of the corners and make a chain of 300. Repeat on the other 3 corners.
Find the middle of the body part and place a marker in that spot. With all pieces wrong side facing you sew a cup to one side of the marker and then sew the second cup to the other side of the marker.
To make the tie on the front of the top all I did was make a chain of about 60 and weave it through the “holes” of the cups and then attach tassels on each end of the chain.
And that’s it. You’re good to go! Below you will find the step by step video tutorial on how to make this crochet crop top pattern
Do you know about how many yards this pattern needs
I made a lot of altering to this pattern such as using hdc instead of sc for the cups also the size cups I made were DDD and used approximately 400yards of 100 % acrylic yarn.
If I wanted to extend the main body part how many multiples should I do the chain
I add 12 for each section that I want to add.
Is that hot in the summer? How is it holding up?
Good
Can someone elaborate on the neck part where you chain 300 I am confused how to weave through top of cup
The chains of 300 on the main part ofctge body are dar too long. Am I missing something?
I don’t think so I just ended up chaining 150 instead bc it was going to be so long at 300
I needed 150 to 170 meters
Do you know what bra size this pattern creates?
After some trial and error the multiplier on the band is multiples of 12 plus 2. I’m a 42 band size and started with a chain of 122
Thank you so much. I’m a 38 band and I estimated 115. I am going to end up making to sides and sewing them together. I got frustrated working this pattern.
i believe you just crochet until it fits your breast, so there is not really a set size but if your larger than a A cup you might want to add 1 2 or 3 more chains to your initial chain
Any. If you have a larger size, just continue the cup pattern. I made mine with 11 rows, which made a size A.
The main body is too long for me, what multiple # of stitches can I reduce the chain length of 86 by?
Very old comment and very late reply, but I ended up using multiples of 8 + 6. So one size smaller would be 78 chains, 2 smaller would be 70 chains
If i would like to make this larger or smaller how many multiples do i need for the first part?
PSA: if you need to adjust the main body section, take the # of bottom frills you want, multiply by 12, and add 2 to get the # of chains you should do in the beginning! I did 62 chains to get 61 sc and 5 frills.
Is the band supposed to reach all the way around you? With the 86 chains, mine only ended up being 25″. I wish I could see a picture of how it fits in the back.
I think you add chains to the ends of the band and tie them together at the back. You can kind of see them in the photos? Hope this helps 🙂
You can add in multiples of 12 to the original ch86, depending on the stretch of your yarn, the original ch86 can fit and still show part of the design up to a band size of 38. I added ch12 and ended up with too much and an overlap on a 38” band size
Just follow the video (if you are size Small or MED. Even a size Large is fine) & add a corset lacing at the back for a perfect fit every time 🙂 You don’t have to sew the back together. You will have to make your ‘own’ cup size too. I made this for my friend who is a size XS-S, ‘A’-cup. It was almost too big for her. If I had used a hook size bigger or thicker yarn it wouldn’t have fit her at all. I hope that this helped you 🙂
I am making this on 8 ply cotton and wondered if I will now need to add extra length for the body? My daughter is very slim though
Any chance you have a picture of her wearing it? I’d like to see how it fits
I want to learn how to crochet this type
I am lost. My edging, picot bit does not match your picture when I follow instructions!!!! Your picture looks like it’s every second or 3rd Chain space not every. Grrrrrrr!!!!
if you’re talking about around the cups, you’re supposed to dc, chain one, skip one… so it is every other!
I am not quite sure of what to do with the back straps – they seem to be a bit long for me.
Could you please advice.
is weight 4 the same as 4 ply?
Thank you so much for this pattern. Made one for my sister as her birthday gift. It looks lovely and she absolutely loves it. 🌷
Thanks for sharing the pattern. Your video were clear and easy to follow. I’ve made one yesterday. It turns out so pretty! https://www.instagram.com/p/CFODve1nc9I/
Do you happen to have a picture of someone wearing the top? I’d like to see how it fits
Beautiful pattern! I made the chain round the neck much smaller, as it held up better. I also made the main body of the top attached to the cups, instead of stitching it on later. It ended up looking amazing, thanks so much!
So happy I came across your fabulous patterns and about to go look at IG. Can’t wait to make some summer tops for my beach loving nieces. Thank you SO much for sharing free patterns.
How do I extend the main body part? I’d like the top to extend to my navel. Thank you.
Im having a problem with the under part of the cup, it bend upwards, it started when i start with the last row. Is it normal? if not. what should i do?
My under part of the cups is bending upwards, it started when i did the last row. Is it normal to bend or does it have to be straight?
Mine have a slight upward curve, but once they’re sewn on, it’s fine 🙂
This pattern is gorgeous, thank you for sharing. I’m a french 85A in breast size, I needed less than 150m of cotton and I elongated the band size to 111sc and made 5raws instead of 2 because I wanted it longer. Still not long enough for my taste. And as my breast is really small, I think the 11ch start is not what fit me well.
Also I crocheted with 2 strands of light yarn and made the edging with only one and a smaller hook and it turn out really lovely too.
In the video, did I see that you doubled up the yarn when making the body section for this pattern? (used 2 balls of yarn at the same time)
I noticed that too and came here to see if it was addressed, but nope, there doesn’t seem to be any answers to questions except someone figuring out the multiples for changing the band. =/
Hi i’m in Australia, i love the cotton you used for Sophia, could you please tell me what it is and i will see if anybody supplies it in Australia, thank you
can i use double knighting instead of cotton
