For this easy crochet rainbow beanie you will need a weight 4 yarn in a main color and a few scraps of yarn in any other colors of your choosing. A size 5mm crochet hook is needed as well as an understanding of the front post double crochet (fpdc) and the back post double crochet (bpdc) stitches.
This beanie is slightly slouchy but if you want it more fitted just do less rounds after you have completed the increase rows.
With your 5mm crochet hook and main color yarn make a magic ring.
Ch 2, 9dc into middle of ring. Join with slip stitch to the first dc to close.
Round 2: Ch 2, 2dc into every stitch around. Join with slip stitch to first dc.
Round 3: Ch 2, * 2dc into next stitch, 1 dc into next . Repeat from * to end. Join with slip stitch.
Round 4: Ch 2, *2dc into next st, 1dc into next 2 sts. Repeat from * around. Join with slip stitch.
Round 5: Ch 2, *2dc into next stitch, 1dc into next 3 sts. Repeat from * to end. Join with slip stitch.
Round 6-10: Dc into each st around. Join with slip stitch.
Change color here if you want the same effect as mine. I used pink.
Round 11: Ch 2 *fpdc into next st, bpdc into following st, repeat from * around. Join with slip stitch.
Change to red
Round 12: Ch 2, *fpdc into next st, bpdc into following st, repeat from * to end. Join with a slip stitch.
Change to orange
Round 13: Ch 2, * fpdc into next st, bpdc into following st. Repeat from * around. Join with slip stitch.
Change to yellow
Round 14: Ch 2, *fpdc into next st, bpdc into following st, repeat from * around. Join with slip stitch.
Change to green
Round 15: Ch 2, *fpdc into next st, bpdc into following st. Repeat from * around. Join with slip stitch.
Change to purple
Round 16: Ch 2, *fpdc into next st, bpdc into following st. Repeat from * around. Join with slip stitch.
Fasten off and weave in ends
Make a Pom Pom if desired and sew to top of hat.
