Crochet Headband Construction
The Amber Frost crochet headband is constructed sideways, meaning the initial foundation chain determines the length of the headband and the amount of rows you crochet determine its width. Although the pattern comes in sizes baby, toddler, child and adult it is best to measure the head yourself. Sometimes you may not have the same yarn as what is mentioned in the pattern or maybe you don’t have the same hook. Sometimes gauge can be completely off. So, the best thing to do is make a chain that’s long enough to go around the head making sure you chain in multiples of 6. This will ensure you get the most perfect fit with any yarn or hook of your choice.
Choosing the right yarn for your crochet headband
The Amber Frost crochet headband pattern uses Lion Brand Touch of Alpaca. This is a weight 4 yarn consisting of acrylic with a slight touch of alpaca, hence the name!).
You should choose a yarn that has good stretch. Acrylic or animal fiber yarn work best but you should steer far away from cotton or bamboo as they lack any sort of elasticity, a characteristic that is most definitely needed when crocheting a headband.

Special Stitches
Wrap Around (WA): yarn over, insert hook into next stitch (from the back of work to the front) in the third row of horizontal “Vs”. You will be inserting the hook under the bottom leg of the V. Yarn over and pull through. Pull yarn up slightly so it’s the same height of the other stitches. You should now have 4 loops on hook. Pull the top loop through second loop. You should now have 3 loops on hook. Yarn over and pull through the remaining 3 loops on hook. Please refer to the free video for a better understanding of the stitch.
The below images show you step by step how to create the WA stitch. Image 6 shows where to insert hook for row 8.
It is highly recommended to follow the free Youtube video tutorial when following this free crochet headband pattern.

Yarn over slip stitch (yoslst): yarn over and insert hook into designated stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop. You should have 3 loops on hook now. Pull the top loop through the bottom 2 loops on your hook.
Yarn over slip stitch in the third loop (yoslst3L): Looking at your work you will notice the usual place where you insert your hook. We will call this the V of the stitch. If you lay your work down flat you will notice a horizontal bar to the front. This is the third loop. So, yarn over, insert hook into the third loop, pull up a loop. You should have 3 loops on hook now. Pull the top loop through the other 2 loops on your hook.
