Yes…my crazy crop top addiction is still going strong! I just can’t seem to knock them on the head. I’ve had a week off work and instead of chilling out and enjoying the art of doing absolutely nothing , I literally spent every moment with a hook in one hand and yarn in the other. I’ve so many ideas for future patterns, and I’m sure you will all love them.
Anyhoo, the pattern I have for you today is not one of my newest. A few years ago I had a little online shop and sold many handmade items from crop tops to beanies. One of my biggest sellers were the alien crop tops. So many people down through the years asked me how I made them, so here I am today sharing my pattern with you all.
For this crochet alien crop top I used a weight 4 cotton yarn and a 5mm crochet hook.
Make 2 cups:
Ch 12 with some green yarn.
Single crochet into 2nd ch from hook and then sc until you reach the 2nd last stitch. In the last stitch make 3 sc. place a marker into the middle stitch of these 3 single crochets.
Carry on with sc on the opposite side of the chain and keep going until the end of the row.
Ch 1, sc into same st as your ch 1. Sc until you reach your stitch marker. In this stitch place 3 sc. Make sure you place your stitch marker into into the middle stitch again. Continue with sc until the end of the row is reached.
Repeat the last row until the cup fits your breast but make sure you change to the black yarn for the last 2 rows. Do not cut yarn. Ch 1 and sc evenly across the bottom of the cup. Cut yarn now and fasten off. Weave in all ends.
Now make your second cup in the same way.
Put both cups to one side and now it’s time to start on the body of the crop top.
With your black yarn, make a chain that is long enough to reach from one side of your ribs to the other side.
Hdc into the 3rd ch from hook. Hdc to end of row. Ch 4 and turn.
Skip first stitch and dc into the next. * Ch 1, skip one, dc into next. Repeat from * until the end of row.
Ch 4 and dc into the ch1-space, *ch 1 and dc into next ch1-space. Repeat from * to end of row.
Ch 2 and hdc into every dc and ch 1-space from the previous row. Repeat until you have reached your desired length.
Fasten off and weave in all ends.
Alien eyes:
Ch 5. Sc into 2nd ch from hook. Then make a hdc into next stitch, then a dc into next stitch. In the last ch make 4 treble crochet. Now turn to the opposite side of the chain, skip the first stitch. In the next stitch work a dc. In the following stitch make a hdc and then work a sc into last stitch.
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Make 3 more eyes and put to one side when finished.
Assembly:
Center the two cups on the body of the top and sew neatly. Join your black yarn to any of the corners of the body. Make a long chain . This will be one of your back straps. Repeat for the remaining 3 corners.
Attach yarn to the top of the cup. I usually attach mine to the stitch that had the stitch marker. Make a very long chain here. This will be your shoulder strap. Repeat for the other cup.
Now all you have left to do is sew the eyes onto the cups and you are ready to flaunt!
