Learn to crochet this quick and easy crochet textured cardigan. The Samhradh [sow-ra] cardigan is the perfect oversized crochet cardigan. It is light, airy and full of texture, making it perfect for wearing in any season.

Our free crochet cardigan is accompanied with a step by step video tutorial.
The word “Samhradh” basically means summer in the Irish language, making it quite fitting for this cardigan. It really is the ultimate summer piece, making it perfect pairing with a cute summer dress or simply thrown over a tee and jeans for an everyday look.
With just a few rows of half double crochet and a row of bead stitch, this cardigan is pretty easy to make, with not much thinking involved when you’re watching your fave tv series. I just love these sorts of projects!
So, the cardigan is worked in five separate panels, a back, two identical front panels and two identical sleeves. We will be working all panels from the bottom up and once all pieces are crocheted we will seam them together with our yarn needle. Lastly we will crochet some ribbing in the inner edge o give it a clean look.

Hello, I would like to crochet this summer cardigan. Can I use #4 yarn for this? Will it make a big difference? Thank you

Hi, my name is Mechelle and I live in Kentucky in the states. I am so glad I ran across your tutorials. I have just completed my 4th project! I love love love your tutorials!!! You are an awesome teacher.! I am ready to start something new so keep them coming.😊
Hallo,
vielen Dank für das schöne Muster. Habe es gleich nach gehäkelt. Leider habe ich ein Problem, zwecks Arme.
Der Durchmesser/Oberarm meines Armes beträgt 33. Wollte 43 Maschen ( Gr. M/L) anschlagen, mir kommt es zu klein/eng vor, da es später zusammen genäht wird…..
Wie viel Maschen sollte ich Anschlagen?
Vielen dank.
Gruß Katrin

The YT tutorials are awesome!
Hope you’ll do more in the future! What about a dress? :)Bye!
Hi!
Love this cardi 🙂
I’m assuming you’re using UK terms, but in the pattern and video you say Double Crochet, but the stitch is actually a uk Treble… ?
Thanks,
A very good demonstration on how to crochet a cardigan.Lovely color.
I’m working on this pattern right now. Love it, it’s so simple and crochets up quickly. I’m doing it in Red Heart Super Saver Black. I’m making this one for my daughter. Keep up the great patterns Carrie. I also made your Harvest pocket shawl and the Grace Sweater. I will post pictures shortly.
I really love all your patterns . I crochet the pocket shawl – 4 of them . Thank you!
Row 2: ch 3 (counts as first dc) *FPDC in next st, BPDC in next st, rep from * across, ending row with a dc on top of ch 3 turning ch. Turn.
hello ,may i ask what does on top of ch3 mean? it means dc into the third chain of ch3 or the stitch after the chain 3? thank you
Hola. Soy de Chile. Excelente video. Incluso sin saber inglés he podido hacerlo y el resultado es realmente lindo. Gracias por compartir este hermoso trabajo.
It means to put a dc into the 3rd ch of the ch3 turning ch.
Hi,
The pattern is awesome… I’ve made the front pieces and the back piece. But I’ve managed to make the back piece two inches shorter. Any ideas on how to fix this so that I don’t have to start over.
The pattern has been easy to follow and I really liked the fact that I could watch the step by step video.
Great pattern!! It took me about five days and five balls of yarn and I am soooo happy with the outcome 🙂
Hi
is there a PDF download pattern for this?? its so pretty but hate looking at patterns on my phone
Hi Carrie!! This sweater is so beautiful. I’ve been inspired to make my 2nd sweater ever, and I love how it looks!! I crocheted this for my Mom, and the sleeves are a bit too long, even with the arms rolled into cuffs. I’ve sewn all the panels together and only need to finish the inside edges. Is there a way to decrease the sleeve length without taking it all apart again? I’ll definitely be making this again – I have yarn for three more sweaters my two sisters, and me!!
Did you get an answer to your question as I’ve done the same thing. Sleeves too long. Thanks
Hi my name is Jette. I taught myself to crochet during lock down as a friend brought me bags full of yarn so I wanted to do something with it. There were five balls of DK in a beautiful lilac colour so I decided to follow your YouTube tutorial. I am normally a size 16/18 so normally wear large or x-large and decided to use the middle No of stitches (is 86 for the back). I finished the jumper last night and it fits but is not loose fitting as I should have gone for the larger size but was worried I would not have enough yarn. Your tutorial was perfect and I will definitely use other patterns. Thank you for giving me the confidence to have a go.
thank you I’ve been dreaming of knitting my own sweater for a long time.Thank you for teaching this time. I follow from youtube You teach very easy to understand. Although I’m not very good at English, but I’ll use a translator to help. Then I wish I could make a cardigan. come out as good as you Thank you very much

I love this cardigan and finished crocheting it but I wondered what type of sewing do you do to join together, is it whip stitch, mattress stitch etc ? I’m not good at sewing 😂
Working on the first sleeve now and I have a question, you say to work to work Rows 7-10 until you reach 50 sts..does that mean 50 rows?
Till you have 50 stitches on the row, then continue with 50 for the next rows
