Hey guys and dolls! Sorry for the delay with putting up this pattern. I’ve had countless requests on my YouTube channel to get this written out so here it is.
Materials needed:
Weight 4 yarn
3.5mm crochet hook
Ribbed waistband:
Ch 16. Sc into 2nd ch from hook. Sc to end. Turn.
Ch1, sc in back loops only across the row. Turn. Repeat this row over and over again until it’s long enough to go all the way around your under-boob area. I did about 100 rows for a size xtra small.
When the band is long enough you are going to slip stitch the ends together (the first row you made to the last row you made). Turn inside out so the seam is in the inside.
Now dc all the way along the long edge of the band. So if you made 100 rows for the band you will place 100 dc along this long edge. The same goes for if you made 104 rows for the band, you will make 104 dc along the edge. For me I made 100 dc. At the end of the row slip stitch into the top of the ch3.
Repeat last row 2 more times.
Front part of top:
To find out how many sts you need for the front area of the top you are going to half whatever number of sts you had in the last row that you completed. For me I had 100 sts so half that number is 50.
With yarn still attached, ch3(counts as first dc), dc into the next 49 sts(or whatever number you have). Turn.
For the next row we are going to begin the cup area so in order to find out where to place your cups you are going to divide the front part of your top into 2 again. For me I had 50 sts so half that is 25. Place a stitch marker into the 25th st in from the right.
So, ch3(counted as first dc), dc2tog, dc into each st until you have 2 remaining before the stitch marker. Here we are going to dc2tog, then make a dc into the last st (the stitch that has the stitch marker).
For the next row and every row after that you are going to ch3 (counted as first dc), then dc2tog, then dc into every st until 3 sts remain, dc2tog, then dc into last st (top of the ch3). Keep repeating this row until 3-4 sts remain.
For the next 22-24 rows you are going to dc over these 3-4 sts. This will be the strap. You should put the top on you to find out exactly how many rows you need for the strap to go around your shoulder and reach the back part of the top. Once it’s long enough slip stitch or sew the strap to the back of the top.
Now lay the top down on a flat surface with the front facing you and attach yarn next to the cup you just completed. Ch3 (counted as first dc), and make 24 dc (or whatever number you have). Repeat the same steps as for the other cup and strap.
Sc all the way along the raw edges and along the straps. Check out my YouTube channel for a more in depth look.
If you want more coverage you can try adding more rows around the cup area or perhaps using a larger hook.

hi evey! since as she says you are cutting the number of stitches in half at different points to figure out how big you want your top you would just adjust the number of rows and stitches to fit the child’s measurements,

This is amazing. I had found something very similar to this, (it claimed to be a bra though, not a summer top) as a knitting pattern, but I can’t knit and didn’t want to mess it up, so thank you for publishing this as a free pattern for everyone.
If you are using the same weight of yarn, I would keep the hook size the same or only bump up to a 4mm. Using too large of a hook might cause more gaps and make the shirt see through. If you want to use a larger hook, I’d recommend increasing the weight of the yarn you use as well.

“Repeat last row 2 more times.”
Do you mean that i should do the dc in the 100 st twice more? So that by the end I’d have 3 rows of dc?

Yes that’s what they mean 🙂
In the post they say it’s an extra small. But you can make it any size by making more than 100 repeats on the rib part.
i believe her measurements came out to be an xs-s

I’m fairly new to crochet, when I do my first chain, then sc into 2nd chain from the hook, at the end I end up with 14 chains going back then chain 1 and turn and keep repeating am I supposed to be repeating 14 or 15 chains?
I know I’m probably just confusing myself 😬
