Hi everyone. Today I have this crochet cropped top pattern for you all. It’s relatively easy so here it goes.
Materials needed:
Weight 4 yarn
5mm crochet hook
The pattern:
Begin by making a chain that reaches from one shoulder to the other. For me that measured 14 inches so I made a chain of 48, which will fit sizes xs-s.
Hdc ito 2nd ch from hook. Hdc to end of row. Turn.
Ch 1 (not counted as a stitch), hdc across the row to end. Repeat this row as many times as you like. The more/less rows you do determines the length of you top. This will be the part of the top from under your armhole to below your bust. I wanted a very cropped style of top so I did a total of 12 rows.
Next row: Slip st into next 3 sts. Ch 1, hdc across the row until 2 sts remain. Leave these 2 sts unworked. Turn
Next row: Ch 1, hdc across row to end. Repeat this row 10 more times.
Next row: Ch 1, hdc2tog, then hdc to end of row. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1, hdc2tog, then hdc to end of row. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1 and make 10 hdc. Leave remaining sts unworked. This will be your shoulder strap. Repeat this row 11 more times. Cut yarn and fasten off. Then attach yarn to the other side and make 10 hdc. Do another 11 rows. Cut yarn and fasten off.
You now have the back of the top made. Repeat this entire process once more for the front part of the top.
When you have completed making both parts, lay the front part on top of back part and slip st the sides together leaving the armhole untouched. Then slip st the shoulders together.
Turn your top inside out and attach yarn anywhere on the bottom edge of the top.
Ch 1, sc into same st, **ch 2, skip 1 st, sc into next. Repeat from ** all the way around bottom edge. Slip st to the 1st sc to close.
Ch 1, sc into same st, ch 3, slip st into 1st ch (picot made) Then sc into that same st. Then ***sc into next ch2-sp, then (sc, ch 3, slip st into 1st ch, sc) into next ch2-sp. Repeat from *** to the end. Slip st into 1st sc to close round.
Attach yarn anywhere in the armhole and sc all the way around to clean up the raw edges. Repeat on the other side.
Then attach yarn anywhere on the neckline and sc all the way around.
Cut yarn and fasten off. Weave in all ends.
I am trying to make this lovely top but I’m not sure how much yarn I need. Xoxo
thanks so much for your free patterns. i like that they do print up well.
First of all, I love this pattern and can’t wait until my top is done! But I am completely confused about the part above the armpit section, where the top on the picture looks like it’s decreasing – it does not when following the instructions. Am I missing something?
