Can you believe that August has already arrived? I can’t tell you how excited I am for fall and winter. Bring on the chunky sweaters, snug beanies and cozy cardigans and say bye-bye summer.
So today’s pattern is the extremely easy v neck ribbed sweater. It’s a relatively quick sweater to make and perfect for the beginner crocheter.
Materials:
Weight 4 yarn ( I used about 500g for size small )
6mm crochet hook
Stitch markers
Yarn needle.
Measuring tape.
Notes:
This sweater was designed to be oversized with a 6 inch positive ease.
The ch 2 at the beginning of every row counts as the first hdc.
Pattern:
This is the main body portion. Front and back are all one piece.
Ch 161 for size small/medium
Ch 169 for size large/xl
Ch 177 for size 2XL/3XL
Ch 185 for size 4XL/5XL
Hdc into the 3rd ch from hook. Hdc to end of row. Ch 2, turn.
Hdc into BLO of every stitch to end. Ch 2, turn. You will repeat this row until the piece measures:
Small: 10 inches
Medium: 11 inches
Large: 12 inches
XL: 13 inches
2XL: 14 inches
3XL: 15 inches
4XL: 16 inches
5XL: 17 inches
So once you have that done your next row will be as follows:
Small/medium:
Ch 2, hdc into next 52 sts, then ch 27, skip 27, then hdc in BLO to end of row. Turn
Ch 2, hdc in BLO in every stitch ( including the ch 27 ) to the end. Turn.
Large/XL:
Ch 2, hdc into next 54 sts, then ch 29, skip 29, then hdc in BLO to end of row. Turn.
Ch 2, hdc in BLO in every stitch (including the ch 29) to end. Turn.
2XL/3XL:
Ch 2, hdc into next 56 sts, then ch 31, skip 31, then hdc in BLO to end of row. Turn
Ch 2, hdc in BLO in every stitch (including the ch 31) to end turn.
4XL/5XL:
Ch 2, hdc into next 58 sts, then ch 33, skip 33, then hdc in BLO to end of row. Turn.
Ch 2, hdc in BLO in every stitch (including the ch 33) to end. Turn
Now continue working every row in hdc BLO until this side of the “slit” (neck opening) measures:
Small: 10 inches
Medium: 11 inches
Large: 12 inches
XL: 13 inches
2XL: 14 inches
3XL: 15 inches
4XL: 16 inches
5XL: 17 inches
Now fasten off and put to one side.
Sleeves:
Ch 61. This will be the length of your sleeve from your armpit to wrist. Add or subtract chains here if you want a longer/shorter sleeve.
Hdc into 3rd ch from hook. Hdc to end. Turn.
Ch 2, hdc in BLO in every stitch to end of row. Turn. Repeat this row until piece measures:
Small: 16 inches
Medium: 17 inches
Large: 18 inches
XL: 19 inches
2XL: 21 inches
3XL: 23 inches
4XL: 24 inches
5XL: 24 inches
Fasten off leaving a long tail. Now make your second sleeve in the same way.
Assembly:
Grab the main body portion of your sweater and fold it in such a way that the v neck opening is entirely to the front while at the same time ensuring the bottom edges of the sweater are meeting each other equally.
Now grab a stitch marker and mark the top right hand corner (any stitch that lays on the crease where the shoulder is. Repeat on the other shoulder.
Next lay your body piece out flat.
Grab one of your sleeves and fold it lengthwise to find the middle stitch. Hold onto that stitch and connect that stitch to one of the markers on the main body piece. Sew the sleeve to the main body. Repeat the same thing for the other sleeve by attaching that sleeve to the other stitch marker on the main body piece.
Now fold your sweater over so it starts to somehow resemble a sweater! Now all that’s left to do is sew up along the sides of your sweater and up along the sleeves. Turn inside out so the seams are in the inside and you are finished your crochet v neck ribbed sweater.
If you find any part of this sweater confusing to make I also have a video tutorial explaining the pattern step by step. https://youtu.be/qNuCaUgm3dI
I love this simple sweater pattern, thank you for sharing it!
I was wondering if you’d share what type of yarn you used for this project?
Love that you include different sizes with your patterns
I was wondering if you have a knitted version of this sweater?
