When I was designing the Aoibheann [ay-veen] crochet sweater I wanted something that was perfect for Spring days and cool summer evenings ahead, yet still be wonderfully cozy at the same time.
Materials:
Any weight 4/aran/10 ply yarn of your choice. I used about 350g for a size small. I would recommend 350-400g for medium, 400-450g for L/XL, 450-500g for 2XL/3XL, 500-550g for 4XL/5XL.
6mm crochet hook
Tapestry needle and 2 stitch markers.
Abbreviations:
ch chain
slst slip stitch
hdc half double crochet
dc double crochet
fpdc front post double crochet
bpdc back post double crochet
Sizes:
S(M,L,XL,2XL,3XL,4XL,5XL)
To fit bust:
34(38,42,46,50,54,58,62)”
This sweater is designed with 8-10″ positive ease.
Back panel:
Ch 66(72,78,84,90,96,102,108)
Row 1: hdc into 3rd ch from hook, hdc in every ch across. Turn.
Row 2: ch 2 (counts as 1st st here and throughout), hdc in every stitch across. Turn.
Row 3: ch 4 (counts as 1st dc and ch1), skip next st, dc in next,* ch 1, skip 1, dc into next, repeat from * across. Turn.
Row 4: ch 2, hdc into every ch1-space and in every dc across. When you reach the end hdc into that last ch 4 space, then hdc into the 3rd ch of that beginning ch4. Turn.
Row 5: ch 2, hdc in every st across. Turn.
Row 6: repeat row 5.
Repeat rows 3-6 until you have your desired length of top. Fasten off leaving a long tail.
Front panel:
Do the same as for the back panel but do 3 rows less. DO NOT FASTEN OFF
Count 19(23,25,29,31,35,37,41) sts in from the right and place a stitch marker into that stitch.
Continuing on from where you are now:
Ch 4, skip 1, dc into next, *ch 1, skip 1, dc into next, repeat from * until you reach the stitch marker. Turn.
Next row: ch 2, hdc into every ch1-space and in every dc across. When you reach the end place a hdc into that ch4 space, then place last hdc into the 3rd ch of that beginning ch4. Turn.
Next row: ch 2, hdc in every st across. Fasten off leaving a long tail.
Now count in the same number of stitches you had for the other shoulder and place a stitch marker into that stitch. Grab your yarn and attach to that stitch:
Ch 4, skip 1, dc into next, *ch 1, skip 1, dc into next, repeat from * until you reach the stitch marker. Turn.
Next row: ch 2, hdc into every ch1-space and in every dc across. When you reach the end place a hdc into that ch4 space, then place last hdc into the 3rd ch of that beginning ch4. Turn.
Next row: ch 2, hdc in every st across. Fasten off leaving a long tail.
Assembly:
Lay the back panel down on a flat surface, then lay the front panel on top of the back panel. Slip stitch the two pieces together at the top of the shoulders. Now count 9 inches down from one shoulder and place a stitch marker. Do the same on the other side. Attach your yarn to the bottom right hand corner and slip stitch up along the edge until you reach the stitch marker. Fasten off and repeat for the other side. Weave in all ends and turn your sweater right side out.
Sleeves:
You will crochet the sleeves around the armholes. In other words they will not be made separately and then sewn in afterwards.
So attach your yarn where the side seam of the sweater meets up with the arm hole:
Round 1: ch 2 (counts as 1st hdc) and make 53(55,59,61,67,73,77,77) hdc evenly around the armhole. Slst into 1st hdc to close the round. 54(56,60,62,68,74,78,78)sts in total.
Round 2: ch 2, hdc in every st around. sl st into 1st hdc to close the round.
Round 3: ch 4 (counts as 1st dc and ch1), skip 1, dc into next, *ch1, skip 1, dc into next, repeat from * all the way around. Slst into 3rd ch of the beginning ch4.
Round 4: ch 2, hdc in every ch1-space and in every dc around, slst into top of beginning ch 2 to close the round.
Round 5: repeat round 4.
Repeat rounds 3-5 until the sleeve is the length of your arm
OR:
If you want a bell sleeve:
repeat rounds 3-5 until the sleeve measures to just pass your elbow then:
ch 4 (counts as 1st dc and ch1), skip 1, dc into next, *ch1, skip 1, dc into next, repeat from * all the way around. Slst into 3rd ch of the beginning ch4.
Next row: ch 2, hdc into every ch1-space and every dc around. Slip st into beginning ch2 to close the round
Next row: Ch 2 (counts as 1st hdc) hdc into next,* 2hdc into next, hdc into each of next 2 sts, repeat from * all the way around. Slip st into beginning ch2 to close the round.
Next row: ch 4 (counts as 1st dc and ch1), skip 1, dc into next, *ch1, skip 1, dc into next, repeat from * all the way around. Slst into 3rd ch of the beginning ch4.
Next row: ch 2, hdc into every ch1-space and in every dc around. Slst into beginning ch 2 to close the round.
Next round: ch 2, hdc into every st around. Slst into beginning ch 2 to close the round.
Repeat last 3 rows until the sleeve is the length of your arm, or maybe a little longer if you want! Fasten off and weave in all ends.
Neck ribbing: Attach your yarn to the corner of your neck line (around the shoulder seam area. Ch 3, and dc all the way around your neckline. Make sure they are evenly spaced and not packed together too tightly. Slip st to the beginning ch3 to close the round.
Next round: ch 3, *fpdc around next dc, bpdc around the next dc, repeat from * all the way around the neck, then slip st into beginning ch3 to close the round. Repeat this round one more time.
Fasten off and weave in all ends. You are now finished your sweater.

This is so pretty, do you think you may make a cardigan version available?
