Learn to knit the perfect spooky Halloween beanie hat. Included with this free knit pattern is a chart and step by step written instructions on the color changes throughout. The Spooky Halloween Beanie is a quick and easy hat with no crazy stitches involved making it really easy for anyone to master.

Now that October has arrived and Halloween is literally just around the corner I just had to create something a little spooky! I designed this hat many moons ago but never actually got around to writing the pattern up until now.
This hat is worked from the bottom up using circular knitting needles. We will begin knitting the ribbed band and then moving onto the colorwork on the main body of the hat. If this is your first time trying knit colorwork please don’t be intimidated. Take each round slowly and refer to the chart often. If you still don’t understand how to read charts I have included a step by step written pattern below and when to change your colors for every single round.
YARN
The yarn I used for this knit beanie hat was Paintbox Simply Aran which is a weight 4 or aran acrylic yarn. I chose the colors black and white but you can play around with any colors you like. I’m thinking of doing a mustard and cream moment for myself already!
Other options for this hat are Stylecraft Special Aran, Hayfield Bonus Aran or Lionbrand Vannas Choice. There are so many good options out there at the moment so I’m sure you will find something to suit you.

Cut off and fasten your white yarn. Continue with round of knit using ONLY BLACK until hat measures 9″ (including ribbed brim).
NEXT ROW: *k2tog, rep from * all the way around.
NEXT ROW: k all sts.
NEXT ROW: *k1, k2tog, rep from * around.
Fasten off and leave a long tail.
Thread your tail end through a yarn needle and weave in and out in all the sts around. When you come to the end of the round pull your tail tight so the top of the hat cinches closed. Make a few stitches to secure and cut your yarn. Weave in all ends.
Sew a faux fur or yarn pom pom to the top and you are good to go.
As mentioned above this beanie hat is made for an adult sized hat. If you feel the hat is too tight go up a size needle. If you want to make this hat for a child I would recommend you go down two needle sizes or use a lighter yarn like a DK or weight 3. You can use the same needles and yarn as I did for smaller sizes and just decrease the number of stitches but the number of sts must be even.
I don’t see the gauge anywhere in the instructions. Do you have that info? Thanks.
