Thank you to Hobbii for providing the yarn for this free crochet bucket hat pattern. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

One of my favourite things to make are hats. They require very little time to make and there’s no fuss at all to them. I’ve made a few winter beanies throughout my time here in the crochet world but never actually made anything related to summer. So I decided to make this quick and easy bucket hat,

The yarn I used was Glitter Delight from Hobbii. This beautiful yarn is white-based with a splash of colour and a light touch of glitter. Glitter delight is a weight 5 or bulky yarn that is an unspun mix of cotton and premium acrylic, all intertwined with a subtle golden polyester thread.

I wanted my bucket hat to be full of colour and boy did this yarn deliver. i chose the shade Summer Meadow and this gave the hat a rainbow feel. All in all I loved working with this yarn. I imagine knitting with this yarn would look amazing so as I write this up I’m already planning a knit sweater!

CONSTRUCTION

This crochet bucket hat is worked from the top down. First we will create a magic loop and into that loop we will crochet our first round. For the next few rounds we will increase after a certain amount of stitches until the crown of the hat is big enough for our head. Then we will do regular rounds without any increasing to create the “sides” of the hat. Once we are happy with that we will next do a little bit more increasing to form the brim of the hat and then we will continue to crochet regular non increasing rounds until the brim of the hat is big enough.

Although this hat is designed with the adult head in mind, you can customise it to fit any size. Simply crochet the increase rounds at the beginning until it is big enough to cover the crown of the head. Below you will find a chart with approximate sizes.
