EDIT: There has been an edit to the row count of the back panel section. My apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Autumn has finally arrived here in Ireland and I couldn’t be happier. It’s time to root out the cozy sweaters and hats and enjoy this wonderful season.
I’ve always loved the look of knitting and have tried to emulate that sometimes in my crochet. A certain play with some crochet stitches can give a look that is similar to knit and I love that about the craft of crochet.

The knit brioche stitch gives a beautiful appearance and looks amazing on anything so with a few wraps of yarn around my hook and some twists and turns I came up with the “Crochet Brioche Stitch”. When you work a piece lengthwise this stitch gives the appearance of the knit brioche stitch. It looks complicated, right? Absolutely not! Once you get through the initial foundation row I promise you that you will fly through it. The best thing about this stitch? It’s a one row repeat!

CONSTRUCTION
The Autumn Brioche Cardigan is worked lengthways and sideways instead of the usual widthways. This means the initial foundation chain runs the length of the cardigan and also the sleeves. If you want to alter the length of the cardigan you will simply add more chains to your foundation chain.
The body of the cardigan is crocheted entirely in one piece using simple stitches such as the single crochet and half double crochets with a few yarn overs involved. It’s really easy, trust me!.
Once the main body of the cardigan is finished you will fold both front panels inward and seam across the tops of the shoulders. Both sleeves are worked separately and sewn into the body. Finally we will crochet a long length of simple ribbing that can be sewn along the entire inner edge of the cardigan.

Weave in all your ends.
Your Crochet Autumn Brioche Cardigan is now complete!
How many rows are there in the back panel between the sleeve holes? It looks like there are only 22 (rows 25 to 57) ?
I think there must be 57 from armhole to armhole? Then another 24 for the front panel?
Is that right?
I made it once – as written – as a tester and the sides were very much overlapping in the front and there was no room for a neck hole.
Thanks!
