Slightly fitted with a ribbed v- neck opening, this crochet vest top is the piece you need in your wardrobe this season. Wear it layered over a tee, long sleeved top or simply wear on it’s own on warmer days, this vest will want you making more!

A few years ago I designed the Grandpa Vest and to this day it is one of my most viewed patterns. I guess you all love vests! So this year I wanted to make another one but one that was slightly more fitted, ever so slightly cropped and change things up at the neckline. I also wanted something more light weight so it’s more suitable for spring and summer. So with my yarn and hook at the ready, I crocheted this perfect (in my opinion!) vest top.

CONSTRUCTION

This crochet vest top is made by crocheting separately the front and the back panels. We begin by working the bottom ribbed hem and then crochet along the long edge of the ribbing. Working in rows of simple half double crochet throughout the pattern with little shaping makes this top a pretty fast project to get done. Once both panels of the body are done we will seam across the shoulders and up along the sides leaving the armholes open. Next we will crochet the ribbed neckline. This is crocheted separately from the main body and once we get it to the length we need we will sew it to the neckline. Lastly the ribbing for the armholes is made the same way as the neckline, ie. crocheted separately and sewn into the armholes.

Turn your sweater right side out (seams on the inside).

Place the beginning of the neckband at the “v” of the neckline and sew the ribbed neckband along the neckline using the whipstitch. Once you have sewn the neckband all the way around the neckline you will next fold the beginning and end of the band in the inside of the sweater and sew these two parts together.

Row 2: ch 1, scblo in each st across, turn.

Rep row 2 until the ribbed band is long enough to go around the entire armhole, slightly stretched.

Fasten off leaving a long tail.

Place the beginning of the band on the bottom end of the armhole (towards the side seam of the top). Sew using the whipstitch all the way around the armhole. Sew the beginning and end of the ribbed band together. Fasten off and weave in ends. Rep the same process for the second armhole.

You are now finished your crochet vest top. Enjoy!
