Learn to crochet this easy crochet shell sweater. Made using a lightweight wool yarn and designed with shell stitches, this sweater is perfect for layering. You could even change things up and use a cotton yarn making this sweater ideal for wearing in spring.

The Grace Sweater is designed to be light and airy, feminine and of course with some beautiful texture to the piece. You all know how much I love my texture so this sweater was going to be no exception!
The sweater is created by making four panels, a back, front and two identical sleeves. Once all panels are crocheted we begin stitching them all together and finally we crochet the ribbed neckline. Both the front panel and back panel are made by first crocheting the ribbed hemline, then crocheting along the long edge of that ribbed hem using the one row repeat stitch pattern.

This crochet sweater pattern is accompanied with a step by step video tutorial. Please scroll down to view it.
The written pattern also includes some notes throughout for sweater length options. This sweater is designed to be true to size so if you would like it more oversized I would suggest going up a size.

YARN
The crochet Grace Sweater was made using Drops Karisma. This yarn is a weight 3 yarn and 100% superwash treated wool meaning it is machine washable and perfect for everyday wearing. However, any weight 3 yarn will work as long as you follow the gauge.
Change things up and use a cotton yarn if you would like to wear this sweater during the spring or summer months and you will have a sweater for all seasons!

FRONT PANEL:
Repeat the same process as for the back panel but do 5(5, 5, 6, 6, 6) rows less.
Next you will use a st marker to mark the 22(25, 28, 31, 34, 37) stitch in.
Continuing on from where you are with your yarn and hook now:
Next row: ch 1, shell in first st, *skip 2 sts, shell in next sc, rep from * across ending with a sc in the st with the stitch marker. You can now remove marker and turn.
Next row: ch 1, shell in first st, *skip 2 sts, shell in next sc, rep from * across ending with a sc in last stitch.
Rep last row a further 3(3, 3, 4, 4, 4) times. Fasten off leaving a long tail.

SLEEVES
Ch 21

Row 2: ch 1, sc in each st across working in the BLO. Turn.
Rep row 2 until you have a total of 35(35, 37, 37, 39, 39) rows. Fasten off leaving long tail. You have completed the ribbed cuff of the sleeve. Now we will work on the main part of the sleeve:
Ch 50(56, 59, 65, 68, 75) If you need sleeve wider keep in mind that the stitch multiples here are 3+2
Next row: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across. Turn.

Rep last row until piece measures 15(15, 15, 16, 16, 16) inches long. Fasten off leaving long tail.
Now take your ribbed cuff and secure with stitch markers to the sc edge. You may have to stretch the cuff slightly. Then sew cuff to main part of sleeve.
ASSEMBLING IT ALL!
Lay the front panel on top of the back panel and with your yarn needle and long tails sew across shoulders.
Next lay entire piece out flat. Grab a sleeve and mark the centre stitch with a stitch marker. Now attach st marker to the shoulder seam of sweater. Using your yarn needle and tail end sew sleeve to sweater. Rep on other side.
Next fold sweater over and sew along under edge of sleeves and down along sides of sweater.
NECK RIBBING:
Turn sweater right side out.
Attach yarn to the side of the neck hole, near the shoulder seam.

But ..
The day one of these wonderful tops is structured for someone with a Very Large (_|_) will be the day I scream wth joy, Carrie .. which means the pattern will have an A-line design and be bigger around the hips than it is at the top.
There’s a challenge for you, you clever Irish designer !!!
